The Leningrad Region authorities and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) are planning to build a multirole museum center at the family estate of famous Russian writer Vladimir Nabokov in the town of Rozhdestveno in the Gatchina District, Leningrad Region.

ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The project has been estimated at $34.8 million, according to the regional government’s press service.

The Leningrad Region and Gatchina District governments will finance the project’s infrastructure. In particular, the project has been connected to a gas pipe, plans for building water and sewage systems have been prepared, and the region’s Museum Agency has prepaid the connection of the museum building to an electric grid.

The Leningrad Region authorities and the IBRD have started working on a multipurpose theater and exhibition center and interactive exhibition space of the Rozhdestveno Estate Museum. The project will cost $523,300. Sound equipment has been delivered to the site, and furniture for the theater and exhibition center, as well as for the entrance, has been ordered. Lighting and exhibition equipment will be purchased later.

The project provides for assembling special equipment in a double-height hall and installing stands, furniture and technical equipment in a temporary display room for interactive sessions with children and adults.

Acting Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko said after visiting the estate that the building was in bad need of renovation.

The park surrounding the mansion, the central alley of which is lined with 150-year-old lime trees and oaks, sprawls down to the Grezna River canyon, with picturesque sandstone cliffs, brooks streaming out of the rock, and a complex of caves.
