    A new cosmonaut training center will soon appear in Russia’s Far North, the Murmansk region’s governor wrote on her Twitter account Wednesday.

    “A facility to train future cosmonauts in the Far North and the Arctic will soon appear in the Murmansk region,” Marina Kovtun announced after meeting with the top management of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center outside Moscow, IA REGNUM news agency reported.

    Before his historic flight on board the Vostok-1 spaceship on April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin, spent two years as a Soviet Air Force fighter pilot in the Murmansk region.
