Vice President of the Russian Peace Foundation Elena Sutormina noted that the Public Chamber is currently setting up a memo for phone operators in order for them to provide psychological help for relatives of ‘jihadists.’

On August 1, the Public Chamber of Russia is launching a telephone hotline for relatives of those who support Islamic State and have gone to join them for a jihad, Elena Sutormina said during a press conference.

Calling the hotline can be both anonymous and personalized. Both the psychological assistance and assistance in locating the relatives of those who have left for Syria to join ISIL will be provided to the callers.

“Right now we are making a memo for the operators in order for them to know how to provide psychological help,” said Sutormina.

There will be 8-10 specialists working on the hotline and they will be available around the clock.

Furthermore, the data on their relatives will be transferred to law enforcement agencies if the callers permit to do so.

“Of course, a person can call the police themselves but experience shows that people often get lost and do not know who to go to when their relatives unexpectedly leave to join Islamic State. In addition, if there is a formal appeal of the Public Chamber, authorities usually work better,” the vice president added.

In recent years, in various regions of Russia, including Moscow, there are increasingly occurring stories associated with youth leaving their homes ‘for jihad’ in Syria and Iraq.

In addition, several lawsuits are ongoing against the insurgents who have returned from the ‘Caliphate’ and against recruiters who were looking for new jihadists.
