Two Russian evacuation planes have returned from Yemen carrying 118 evacuees.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Two evacuation planes that the Russian Emergencies Ministry has sent to Yemen have landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport.

The planes brought 118 evacuees, including 42 Yemeni nationals, 13 Russian and 8 Ukrainian citizens. There are 17 children among the evacuees.

Earlier, the same planes delivered over 46 metric tons of humanitarian aid to Yemen.

Ukrainians have been taking advantage of Russian evacuation flights as Ukraine does not have an embassy in Yemen.

On Monday, a Russian plane brought some 150 people from Yemen. It was the seventh flight from the country by Russian pilots over the past two weeks.

Two Russian Aircraft With Humanitarian Aid Arrive in Crisis-Hit Yemen
Tensions in Yemen have been on the rise in recent months amid violent clashes between Houthi militants and troops loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Houthis, who are the country’s main opposition force, have taken control of Sanaa and other cities in Yemen, forcing the Yemeni government to resign in January.

In late March, Hadi addressed Arab League countries asking for military aid. Following the request, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition began targeting Houthi positions in Yemen with airstrikes.

A number of countries, including Russia, China and India, began an evacuation of people from Yemen amid intensified hostilities.

Russia has also delivered about 148 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Yemen.
