An underground storage site with more than 200 kilograms (over 441 pounds) of explosives was found in Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee announced on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Committee’s special task force also discovered about 300 kilograms (over 660 pounds) of bomb-making components, detonators, fuses and a laptop computer with detailed maps of the republic at the storage sites, according to the statement.

"Two underground laboratories were discovered in private houses belonging to accomplices of a ‘southern’ gang group. There was ammunition there and seven 80-liter (21 US gallon) plastic canisters filled with explosives with a total capacity of more than 200 kilograms of TNT."

Dagestan is a hotbed of Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus. Multiple violent attacks have plagued the region over the past decade.
