68% of Russians Think Russia Plays Major Part in Global Affairs - Poll

Nearly 70 percent of Russians think that Moscow plays a leading role in tackling global challenges, according to a new survey.

Twenty-four percent of respondents said Moscow's role in global affairs was not too significant, with 5 percent saying it was minimal, a poll conducted by Russia's Levada Center showed.

67% of Germans Consider Russia ‘World Power’ - Poll
A record number of Russians (nearly 70 percent) consider Russia a superpower. This is a marked increase compared to 1999, when only 31 percent of Russians thought that the country was a great power.

The majority of respondents (60 percent) favor stronger economic, political and cultural ties with the West, with 29 percent against rapprochement, according to the survey. In 2000, more than 75 percent supported closer ties with Western countries.

1,600 people from 46 Russian regions took part in the poll.
