Russia Detains Former Rada Deputy, Prepares Extradition to Ukraine

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk ally Oleksandr Shepelev has been detained in Russia and will be extradited to Ukraine on charges of embezzlement and premediated murder.

Former Ukrainian Rada deputy Oleksandr Shepelev has been detained in Russia and is awaiting extradition into Ukraine following a request for his extradition.

A former member of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, now called Batkivshchyna, which Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk is a former leader of. Shepelev is suspected of premediated murder and embezzling over 315 million hryvnias ($39.38 million in 2009) from the Rodovid bank in 2009, during Tymoshenko's term as Ukraine's Prime Minister. Shepelev was previously extradited into Ukraine from Hungary in September 2014, but escaped while he was undergoing treatment in a hospital.
