Plans to deliver weapons to Kiev and impose additional sanctions against Russia are destabilizing the situation and setting back what was already done to bring peace to Ukraine, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

MOSCOW, February 10 (Sputnik) — Plans by western countries to increase sanctions against Russia, as well as the possible deliveries of lethal weapons to Ukraine, destabilize the situation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

"The Russian Federation is a country that is really interested in settling this [Ukrainian] crisis. All of these other plans of increasing sanctions, isolation, delivering weapons, and so on, all of these steps that are being taken, unfortunately, are reversing everything and destabilizing the situation in Ukraine," Peskov said.

At the moment, the West is divided over the issue of lethal weapons deliveries to Kiev, with Washington considering the move, while Germany and France are in favor of exclusively diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis.

Russia has repeatedly urged parties to the conflict in Ukraine to seek a peaceful solution to the crisis and warned that arming Ukraine would only aggravate the situation. As for the sanctions, Moscow branded the measures as counterproductive.

Russia, alongside Ukraine, Germany and France, will make another attempt at settling the conflict in Ukraine on Wednesday, when the four countries' leaders will meet for the Normandy format negotiations.
