Yury Ushakov, representative of Russia’s Presidential Executive Office, said that Russia is planning to negotiate with Egypt to use nuclear power plants, designed by Russia, as the basis for its nuclear infrastructure.

Russia proposed to Egypt to create a comprehensive nuclear infrastructure on the basis of a Russian-made atomic power plant, Yury Ushakov, representative of Russia’s Presidential Executive Office, said.

"We are proposing to establish in Egypt a comprehensive nuclear infrastructure based on a modern plant, designed by Russia," Ushakov said at a press briefing, a few days before visit of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to Egypt.

Vladimir Putin is expected to visit the country on February, 9-10. During the upcoming talks, the Russian president will discuss the prospects of the development of bilateral relations, including in the nuclear sphere, as previously reported by Kremlin’s press service.

Russia and Egypt in 2008 signed an intergovernmental agreement concerning the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The agreement particularly allows Russia’s state corporation "Rosatom" to participate in a tender for the construction of the first Egyptian nuclear power plant.

Responding to a question whether Russia submitted an application for the participation in the tender, Ushakov said that the issue is currently under a close consideration.
