"Of course, like any other Earthling I dream of finding out if there is life somewhere else besides on Earth. This is a fundamentally interesting task," Rogozin said during an interview on Rossiya-24 television.
In regard to space, Rogozin also noted that further scientific exploration is also needed to protect Earth from asteroid strikes.
"Moreover, it is necessary to provide security for Earth against the dangers of asteroids and comets," he added.
In November, Russian space agency Roscosmos head Oleg Ostapenko said that the country's space program for 2016 and 2025 would be submitted to the government for approval in December. The plans include the development of satellite communication and navigation systems, as well as the launch of research spacecraft to the Moon, Mars and the Sun.
In September, the Russian Defense Ministry said the country plans to build a network of advanced laser-optical and radar stations over the next four years, aiming to bolster its space object recognition capability.
In the wake of a meteorite explosion over Russia's Urals region in 2013, the country's Aerospace Defense Forces said it would develop measures to protect Russia from meteorites and other space objects.
