Earlier, it was reported that PACE officials planned to visit Rostov region on December 8-10. In November, a delegation of the German parliament came to the region and met with Ukrainian refugees.

MOSCOW, December 9 (Sputnik) — A delegation of the PACE Committee on migration, refugees and displaced persons has arrived to Rostov-on-Don, where it will hold a meeting with local officials and visit a refugee camp, a spokesperson for the Rostov local government told RIA Novosti.

"Jim Sheridan, committee’s spokesperson, and David Milner, secretary of the committee on migration, refugees and displaced persons, came to Rostov," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that PACE officials planned to visit Rostov region on December 8-10. In November, a delegation of the German parliament came to the region and met with Ukrainian refugees. There are a total of 39,000 Ukrainian citizens in the region, including more than 1,000 people in four temporary accommodation facilities.

According to the official, in the near future, the PACE delegates will meet with a group of local officials, led by Rostov deputy governor Sergey Bondarev. Then, they will visit a refugee camp for Ukrainian citizens in the small town of Krasny Desant. The delegates are also expected to visit a local school where refugee children attend.

The flow of refugees from southeastern Ukraine was sparked by fighting between pro-independence militants and the Ukrainian military. The Rostov Region has seen a major influx of Ukrainian refugees. Since the beginning of the military conflict UN, OSCE and Bundestag officials have visited Rostov Region.

In November, Rostov deputy governor Vadim Artyomov said that a PACE delegation visit means the organization recognizes the need for an active dialogue with Russia, to include providing aid to the Ukrainian citizens who cannot return home.
