Russia's historic first McDonald's, closed this past August due to sanitary violations, has reopened today, business news service RBK reports.

MOSCOW, November 19 (Sputnik) — The McDonald’s off Pushkin Square, which was the first McDonald’s franchise restaurant to open in Russia, reopened its doors Wednesday afternoon, within 90 days of its temporary closure, Russian business news service RBK reports.

The Moscow Mayor’s Office has confirmed that the violations of sanitary and epidemiological norms which caused the restaurant’s temporary closure in late August have been dealt with.

Eight McDonald’s restaurants in Russia, including two in Moscow, remain closed due to the unsatisfactory results they received from Russia’s consumer protection agency, which has checked over 200 of the chain’s 451 restaurants in Russia for code violations. The McDonald’s at Moscow’s Oxhotniy Ryad shopping center across from the Kremlin is among the restaurants that remain closed.

The historic restaurant off Pushkin Square in the center of Moscow originally opened in 1990 following a deal between the Soviet government and McDonald’s Canada. The restaurant was the largest McDonald’s in the world at the time of its opening.
