KALININGRAD, November 16 (Sputnik) — The German war grave commission has handed over to the Russian side the remains of ten Soviet soldiers who have died during the World War II on the territory of the present-day Kaliningrad Region, a spokesman for the Russian Baltic Fleet said Sunday.
"According to the information provided by the German side, it was discovered that the soviet soldiers died in February-March of 1945 and were buried on the cemetery where the German side was conducting scheduled works," Oleg Bobrovsky said.
According to Bobrovsky, the body remains were found by the members of the German war grave commission as they were searching for and exhuming the dead soldiers at one of Kaliningrad's largest war burial places located in the city's old German cemetery.
The German war grave commission has also passed to the Russian side the objects it has found at the burial site, including the medal For the Victory over Germany, the medal For the Defense of Stalingrad, Soviet coins of 1940-1945 and the remains of tableware.
The experts of the war memorial service of the Russian Baltic Fleet are now searching for the relatives of the deceased soldiers, after that the remains will be buried with full military honors. At the moment nine soldiers have been preliminary identified. It was established that they were concentration camps prisoners.
