Nikolai Bordyuzha, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary-General, said that Closing country’s borders is not an effective policy in responding to a terrorist threat.

MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) — Closing country’s borders is not an effective policy in responding to a terrorist threat, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary-General Nikolai Bordyuzha told International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya on Tuesday.

“This is a way to losing our allies. Closing, and not letting anyone in, then we will live safely and happily. This is nonsense. If we will close our borders, it will give us nothing. Another matter is the fact that by joint work we can create the safe zone in the territories of CSTO member states, rather than spending money, billions, in order to establish some structures on the border, and closing up from our neighbors and allies. No, we do not need that,” Bordyuzha said.

“We should organize joint effective actions and strengthen corresponding services of these countries. Our allies are interested in reinforcing security just like us. And they are ready for cooperation,” Bordyuzha added.

The CSTO is the intergovernmental military alliance formed in 1992. Currently it consists of six members, including Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Belarus, as well as two observer states – Afghanistan and Serbia.
