MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - The number of terrorism-related crimes in Russia has decreased by 50 percent when compared with the same period last year, the head of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov said Tuesday .

“The number of terrorism-related crimes has declined more than two-fold this year. A total of 69 [terrorism-related] crimes have been committed, 45 of them in the Republic of Dagestan [North Caucasus], which killed 41 and injured 125 law enforcement officers,” the FSB head said.

In general, the number of terror-related crimes has been significantly dropping in Russia in recent years.

According to the FSB and Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee, 779 terrorism-related crimes were committed in the country in 2010, 365 crimes in 2011, 261 in 2012, and 218 in 2013.

Outbreaks of violence are still common in Russia's republic of Dagestan, where an Islamic insurgency has been ongoing for over a decade.
