YEKATERINBURG, September 9 (RIA Novosti) – A court in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg ruled Tuesday to temporarily close a McDonald’s restaurant in the city for 80 days , a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

Russian sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor temporarily closed the restaurant pending a court ruling, citing violations of sanitary regulations.

Russian sanitary authorities have launched sanitation checks on the fast-food chain in 18 regions in Central Russia. Inspections are currently underway in 16 other Russian regions besides Moscow and Moscow Region. According to Rospotrebnadzor, McDonald’s products contain more fat, protein and carbohydrates than allowed by the country’s «technological norms.»

As of today, the inspections resulted in temporary closure of 8 fast food restaurants in Moscow, Moscow region, Sochi, Yekaterinburg and Volgograd

The McDonald’s corporation, founded in 1940, is the world’s largest hamburger fast-food chain. Currently, McDonald’s has more than 440 restaurants in 75 Russian regions.
