Moscow has demanded Kiev to stop firing on peaceful cities if it is still able to consider the consequences of its criminal policy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary published on its website Wednesday.

MOSCOW, July 2 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow has demanded Kiev to stop firing on peaceful cities if it is still able to consider the consequences of its criminal policy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary published on its website Wednesday.

“We again resolutely demand from the Ukrainian authorities, if they are still able to consider the consequences of their criminal policy they are following, to stop firing on peaceful cities and villages in their own country and return to an actual ceasefire in order to save the lives of people,” the commentary reads.

The Russian Ministry emphasized that “solving Ukraine’s political problems through the physical destruction of civilians in its own country is unlikely to correspond with the norms of the civilized European society that Kiev is striving toward.”

The ministry added that the Kiev regime will have to answer for its crimes.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced on July 1 an end to the ten-day ceasefire, which he previously declared in the country’s east as part of his detailed peace plan.

Soon after the truce was over, Ukrainian parliament Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov said that the army had resumed the active phase of Kiev’s military operation in the country’s restive regions. Battles have been raging in a number of cities and villages.

Late Tuesday, the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s republic said they are willing to continue ceasefire consultations with Kiev and international mediators.
