Rescuers have delivered more than 83 tons of food in the last 24 hours to residents in the flooded settlements of Russia’s Altai Territory, southern Siberia, the Emergency Ministry reported.

MOSCOW, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - Rescuers have delivered more than 83 tons of food in the last 24 hours to residents in the flooded settlements of Russia’s Altai Territory, southern Siberia, the Emergency Ministry reported.

"During the last 24 hours some 366,05 cubic meters of drinking water have been delivered to 25 settlement, as well as 83,58 tons of food - to 46 settlements," the ministry stated.

Intense flooding in southern Siberia, which began after heavy rains, affected the Altai Territory, Gorny Altai, Khakassia and Tuva. The exact number of casualties is still unspecified. Russian government has allocated 3,75 billion rubles to help the victims, the first payments have already begun.

Some 80 bridges and 72 kilometers of protective dikes have been repaired in the last 24 hours. According to the rescuers, some 24 settlements with a population of 1,789 thousand people remain flooded in the Altai Territory.

The peak flooding in the Altai has passed, the situation is now stable.
