A Russian court has issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian businessman running for mayor of Kiev on charges of inciting hatred and murder, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee said Thursday.

MOSCOW, May 8 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian court has issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian businessman running for mayor of Kiev on charges of inciting hatred and murder, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee said Thursday.

“The Basmanny District Court in Moscow has ruled to arrest Gennady Balashov in absentia,” Vladimir Markin said.

Russia opened a criminal case against Balashov back in March after the mayoral hopeful publicly called for the slaughter of Russians in Crimea and across Ukraine.

According to Russian investigators, the businessman has been added to an international wanted list.

On Wednesday, the Committee also prolonged its criminal probe against Dmitro Yarosh, the leader of Ukraine’s radical Right Sector group and a presidential contender, after he urged Chechen extremist commander Doku Umarov to organize terrorist attacks on Russian soil.
