Sometimes the tap of a cat’s paw can save a life, as a man in Russia’s Urals learned when his cat woke him up just in time for them to flee his burning house.

UFA, January 17 (RIA Novosti) – Sometimes the tap of a cat’s paw can save a life, as a man in Russia’s Urals learned when his cat woke him up just in time for them to flee his burning house.

The Bashkiria resident had a narrow escape after his homemade heater started sparking during the night and set his house on fire, the republic’s emergency service said Friday.

The man was still sound asleep when the furniture and wooden floor in the rural house were ablaze, a service spokesman told RIA Novosti.

But his cat, Murka, jumped on his chest and started batting him with her paws until he woke up, the spokesman said.

This gave the villager, whose name was withheld, enough time to escape with Murka in his arms.

The cat then fled in the ensuing turmoil as firefighters unsuccessfully tried to save the house from burning down, Russian media reported.

Murka’s whereabouts remained unknown at the time of this article’s publication.
