MOSCOW, December 17 (RIA Novosti) – A top Russian lawmaker and official from the ruling United Russia party described jailed member of feminist punk band Pussy Riot Nadezhda Tolokonnikova on Tuesday as the most attractive girl in the country.
“You could nominate Tolokonnikova as the most beautiful girl in Russia (by all criteria!),” Vadim Tyulpanov, a senator in Russia’s upper house of parliament and a senior member of United Russia wrote on Twitter.
“We love Nadezhda!” Tyulpanov, 59, said in another tweet.
Tolokonnikova, 23, was sentenced to two years in prison in August 2012 on hooliganism charges after taking part in brief performance of a “punk prayer” in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.
Along with fellow band member Maria Alyokhina, Tolokonnikova could be freed under an amnesty that is expected to passed by the State Duma this week.
Tyulpanov is a member of the ruling council of United Russia, the country's dominant political force that is slavish in its support for President Vladimir Putin, a former leader of the party.
The lyrics of the song that earned members of Pussy Riot a jail sentence included a refrain calling on God to "drive out" Putin.
