Russian prosecutors said Friday that a man is set to go on trial in central Russia after he took out a loan to pay for the 60,000 ruble ($1,807) contract killing of his own wife.

UFA, November 29 (RIA Novosti) – Russian prosecutors said Friday that a man is set to go on trial in central Russia after he took out a loan to pay for the 60,000 ruble ($1,807) contract killing of his own wife.

The suspect, who was not named, is alleged to have arranged a bank loan to hire an assassin after an argument with his wife, said Guzel Masagutova a spokeswoman for prosecutors in the Russian Republic of Bashkortostan.

The assassin was given the woman’s home address and her work schedule as well as a 30,000 ruble advance, Masagutova told RIA Novosti. Law enforcement officials reportedly stepped in before the murder took place.

The suspect, who maintains his innocence, faces up to life imprisonment if convicted, according to prosecutors.
