MOSCOW, October 24 (RIA Novosti) – Police in the southern Russian city of Volgograd said Thursday they are searching for a person who threw a Molotov cocktail at a local mosque days after a deadly suicide bombing linked to an Islamist insurgency happened in the city.

Volgograd police said that someone tossed a bottle filled with an unknown liquid at the first-floor window of a city mosque in the early hours of Thursday. The window was not broken, and no fire broke out as a result of the incident.

On Tuesday, the premises of a local Muslim organization that comprised both a mosque and the home of the organization’s head was pelted with Molotov cocktails in a different district of the city. The resulting fire was put out promptly by firefighters.

That building is reportedly located near to the district where a suicide bomber blew herself up on a bus Monday, killing six others and injuring about 50 people. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The woman was identified as a 30-year-old from Russia’s restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, where the authorities have been battling an Islamist insurgency for almost two decades.
