Police at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport have detained a man who started a brawl on a plane bound for Egypt and threatened to kill a security inspector, the city police said Sunday.

MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) – Police at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport have detained a man who started a brawl on a plane bound for Egypt and threatened to kill a security inspector, the city police said Sunday.

The passenger started behaving violently early on Sunday while on board the Nordwind Airlines flight to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The man “insulted the inspector with curse words, threatened to kill him and also injured him in head,” a police spokesman said.

The attacker, whose name is yet unknown, was taken off the plane and handed over to police. During the detention at the airport, the passenger offered resistance to police. He faces a fine and also charges for resisting arrest, the spokesman added.

Last month, police at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport detained a drunken Russian woman on board a plane bound for the Turkish city of Antalya, who behaved violently and insulted flight attendants.

In January, Russian businessman Sergei Kabalov became notorious after a YouTube video made by another passenger showed him punching one male passenger on the nose and striking a flight attendant on board a Kogalymavia airliner bound for Egypt. He tried to break into the cockpit and threatened to “kill anyone with two fingers.”

Kabalov fled to Belarus to avoid arrest in Russia, but was handed over to Russia's authorities in May. A criminal case was launched against him for attempted hijacking and assault. If convicted, Kabalov faces 12 years in prison.

Russia has recently seen a series of similar incidents on planes, which have prompted the country’s lawmakers to push for tougher measures against rowdy passengers.
