People in Russia’s flood-hit far east will get 17 million rubles (about $527,187) from the federal reserve fund to help repair flood damage, with a further 16.4 million rubles coming from a regional reserve fund, local authorities said Monday.

VLADIVOSTOK, September 16 (RIA Novosti) – People in Russia’s flood-hit far east will get 17 million rubles (about $527,187) from the federal reserve fund to help repair flood damage, with a further 16.4 million rubles coming from a regional reserve fund, local authorities said Monday.

Flood victims in the Primorye Territory will get a one off payment of 10,000 rubles ($310) each, and payments of 50,000 rubles ($1,550) to cover partial damage and 100,000 rubles ($3,000) to cover more extensive, or total, damage – all from the federal reserve fund, the statement said.

The regional government is allocating 16.4 million rubles ($507,000) from its reserve fund for damage to allotments and gardens.

Last week, Russia’s Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said that over 50,000 people had already received compensation.

Meteorologists have said that the floods affecting the Amur and Magadan regions, the Jewish Autonomous Region, the Primorye Territory, and the Siberian republic of Yakutia are the worst to hit the area in 120 years.
