A man is accused of having bribed voters with vodka at regional legislative elections in a city in Russia’s Far East, local police said Sunday.

CHITA, September 8 (RIA Novosti) – A man is accused of having bribed voters with vodka at regional legislative elections in a city in Russia’s Far East, local police said Sunday.

The suspect, a 23-year-old citizen of Chita, in the Zabaykalsky Krai, allegedly took three men to a polling station in his car and asked them to vote for a member of the Civic Platform party, promising to reward them with vodka.

“After the men cast their vote, he gave each of them a bottle of vodka,” a police spokesman said.

The man faces a fine of up to 2,500 rubles ($75).

Residents of the Zabaykalsky Krai elect on Sunday their governor, lawmakers of regional legislature and heads of seven municipal districts.
