ARKHANGELSK, August 9 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian communist party nominated a woman for a regional legislature who had died six months previously, the regional electoral commission said Friday.
A list of candidates for the Arkhangelsk Region Legislative Assembly presented by the Communist Party of Social Justice was registered on July 18. One of the candidates was a woman born in 1937, a resident of the central Russian city of Kursk. The electoral commission investigated the candidate's nomination because no information was provided about her education.
When the commission sent an inquiry to the Kursk division of the Federal Migration Service, it was informed the woman in question had died on February 19.
In a statement posted on its website, the electoral commission noted that the list of candidates was approved at a party congress on June 16, i.e., almost four months after the woman’s death.
The candidate was struck off the list, the commission said, adding no other action will be taken.
The Communist Party of Social Justice, registered in May 2012, has the same abbreviation in Russian as the Communist Party of the Soviet Union: KPSS.
