MOSCOW, August 9 (RIA Novosti) - The mayor of the far eastern Russian city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk has divorced his wife over her desire to move to the United States, regional media reported.
The Alternative Sakhalin TV (ASTV) asked Mayor Andrei Lobkin why he had separated from his wife. The couple divorced on July 26.
“The reason [for the divorce] was Lyudmila’s desire to finally connect her life with the United States. In May this year, she obtained the citizenship of that country,” Lobkin said.
“That is her choice. I am very much grateful to her for the years we lived together, for the daughter, but there is only one decision for me: I have been and remain a citizen of Russia,” he told ASTV on Thursday.
