MOSCOW, August 7 (RIA Novosti) - The mayor of the Russian city of Penza in the Volga Federal District has broken up a brawl, the municipal administration reported on its website.

The incident took place in the city center on Tuesday, when the mayor was returning to the administration building from a regional government meeting.

Mayor Roman Chernov stopped the fight and handed two of several young people involved in it over to police for a check.

“Penza is a cultured city, it is no place for fights,” Chernov told the offenders as quoted by the administration’s website.

It was not immediately clear how many people had been involved in the brawl.

In the early 1990s, Chernov worked in the Russian Border Guard Service, and in 1995-1998 he was a regional Federal Security Service (FSB) department officer.
