Two Krasnoyarsk residents inspired by President Vladimir Putin’s recent crane stunt have taken to the skies with a hen, a turkey and a goose in what they call “The Dream Flight.”

A two-minute video of the flight was posted on YouTube on Thursday, a week after Putin’s “Flight of Hope” with rare Siberian cranes in a motorized hang-glider.

The Flight of Hope project aims to reintroduce the endangered birds to nature, teaching the human-bred creatures the correct migration routes.

The YouTube video features young men dressed in white hang-gliding with three birds under the accompaniment of “My Hang-Glider,” a 1983 hit by Russian pop star Valery Leontyev.

The authors of “The Dream Flight” said “it is dedicated to everyone who has not lost hope of seeing his most incredible dream come true.”

They also said that they went even farther than the president, taking to the skies three flightless birds: “Fiona the chicken, Gosha the goose and Innokenty the turkey.”

Putin’s flight turned into an unflattering Internet meme, with Russian bloggers cranking out a flurry of sarcastic comments and photo-shopped pictures of Putin and the birds.

During the recent APEC summit in Vladivostok, the president suggested that his critics should try to fly themselves instead of mocking his attempt to save the rare birds.
