Two traffic police were killed in a shooting in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Tuesday evening, the press service for the republic's Interior Ministry said.
Investigators earlier said that three unidentified people performed a drive-by shooting at a police vehicle in Khasavyurt, killing one officer immediately and injuring a second. One attacker was killed in the shootout and another escaped. It was not immediately clear of the whereabouts of the third assailant.
"One law enforcer died on the spot, the second died upon reaching the hospital," the press service said.
Police are attempting to identify the dead attacker and are continuing their search for the remaining two offenders.
