Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday gave the tax service and federal prosecutors three months to review government officials' income declarations.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday gave the tax service and federal prosecutors three months to review government officials' income declarations.

"I am giving three months for this so that by the end of the income declaration campaign [deadline of April 1] we know exactly who has violated what," Medvedev said at a meeting with the anti-corruption committee.

The Russian head of state also said he was waiting for proposals on liability for the presentation of false information in income declarations.

"There must be no discrepancy between the declared sources of income and the actual sources," he stressed.

Medvedev admitted that the income declaration system "is imperfect" and that "there are lots of ways of concealing specific incomes."

"If there are loopholes, they need to be closed," he said.

He warned, however, there should be no "witch hunting" or "settling of political scores."
