Some 300 cinemas in 22 countries around the world will show real-time ballets staged by Russia's Bolshoi Theater starting from December 19, the theater's press service announced on Tuesday.

This is a joint project of the Bolshoi Theater and the CielEcran company that last year showed the Flames of Paris ballet as a pilot project in which only European cinemas participated.

In the 235th season the ballets will be shown online on Sundays in France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Britain, the United States and with a shift in time in Australia and Japan.

The broadcasting will be technically operated by the French company Bel Air Mebia, which already made recordings of The Pharaoh's Daughter, The Queen of Spades, The Bolt, The Flames of Paris and Eugene Onegin.

The new season will have four ballets shown in real-time. The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky staged by Yury Grigorovich and decorator Simon Virsaladze will be broadcast on December 19.

A ballet evening which will consist of a Class-concert with music by Dmitry Shostakovich and the ballet Giselle will be shown on January 23, 2011. On March 6, ballet enthusiasts will see the famous Don Quixote staged by Marius Petipa.

The program will end on May 29 with the ballet Coppelia by Petipa and Enrico Cecchetti. The ballet was revived on the scene of the Bolshoi Theater in a new choreographic version by Sergei Vikharev.
