Police killed four militants during a special operation in Russia's volatile North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Friday, a local police source said.
The operation took place in Dagestan's eastern Sergokalinsky district.
"The militants are being identified," the source said.
No information is available on any police casualties.
The operation came a day after a suicide bombing at a market in Vladikavkaz, the capital of the nearby North Caucasus republic of North Ossetia, killed at least 18 people and injured more than 150.
The bombing is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks that have rocked the troubled North Caucasus in recent weeks, including a suicide attack on a military camp in Dagestan.
