One person was killed and one injured when a car came under gunfire in the North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan on Tuesday, a police source said.
Unidentified assailants fired shots at a car, which belonged to a local internet provider, in the republic's capital Makhachkala.
"The driver died immediately, another employee was taken to hospital. The details of the incident are being investigated," the source said.
The attackers dropped the weapon and fled, he added.
Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus republics, especially Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, have seen an upsurge of militant violence lately, with attacks usually focusing on police and officials.
