Wildfire is threatening to engulf the military command of the Russian anti-missile alert center in the Moscow region, a spokesman for Russian Space Forces said on Saturday.
Three hotspots near the Russian anti-missile alert center based in southeastern Kolomensky District in the Moscow region were quickly smothered, Lt. Col.Alexei Zolotukhin said, adding the district was still threatened by the quickly spreading fires.
Zolotukhin said around 50 Space Forces' servicemen were involved in cutting 2 hectares of trees nearby the fire dangerous area.
The wildfires raging across the central part of European Russia has killed over 50 people so far, leaving more than 3,500 people homeless. Forest and peat bog fires, sparked by an unprecedented heat wave, are currently burning in 22 Russian regions.
