Around 10% of drugs consumed in Russia are trafficked from China, Russia's chief anti-narcotics official said on Friday.

Viktor Ivanov, speaking at a press conference in Beijing organized by RIA Novosti, said Chinese traffickers mainly supply amphetamines and similar drugs.

He said that the Russian drug watchdog, together with Chinese police, has been effective in combating Chinese drug trafficking, with the two sides promptly exchanging information as well as cutting off channels of drug distribution.

Russian and China signed an agreement on anti-narcotics cooperation in 2004, followed by an additional protocol in 2005.
