The Russian Defense Ministry has proposed creating a new state lottery to finance the development of its armed forces, a Russian daily reported on Monday.
The Defense Ministry hopes to raise some 3 billion rubles ($96.3 million) in the framework of 16 state-wide lotteries, Vedomosti said.
The daily said the Defense Ministry put in the request for holding the lotteries to the country's Finance Ministry, Ministry of Economic Development, and the Interior Ministry for their approval.
The Defense Ministry would receive 10% of the 30 billion rubles in lottery ticket sales in no less 20,000 lottery outlets throughout the country.
RIA Novosti was unable to receive an official commentary from the Defense Ministry on the project.
