MOSCOW, January 10 (RIA Novosti) - An drunken passenger on board a Russian plane bound for Moscow tried to hijack an aircraft, but was detained by passengers and crew, a spokeswoman for the country's Aeroflot air carrier said on Thursday.

On Wednesday evening guards at an airport in Kaliningrad, Russia's Baltic enclave, allowed the drunken passenger to get aboard the plane. Soon after takeoff, the man began to bother other passengers, later declaring that he had hijacked the plane.

He then attacked a flight attendant before being overpowered by passengers.

"The man was tied up and locked in the lavatory," the spokeswoman said.

After the plane had landed the rowdy passenger was taken to a police station at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.
