Tensions between Russia and Georgia escalated after four Russian officers were charged in Tbilisi with spying in September. Although the officers were soon released and returned to their homeland, Russia suspended transport and mail links with Georgia.
"While supporting the Russian leadership's position due to the Georgian leaders' unfriendly manifestations towards Russia, we consider any manifestations of ethnic animosity towards Georgians living in Russia and respecting its laws to be inadmissible," the union said in a statement at its congress Sunday.
"The Georgian leaders' unreasonable actions cannot cross out the friendly feelings of Russians towards the fraternal Georgian people and Georgia's talented sons in the sphere of art," the statement said.
