MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - Three people have been killed in a shootout near a traffic police checkpoint in southern Russia, a police source said Wednesday.
He said traffic police and a Chechen special police unit exchanged fire at a road checkpoint in the Republic of Ingushetia.
"According to preliminary reports, three people have been killed and seven wounded," he said.
He said shooting broke out when the Chechen officers refused to show their IDs to police.
An investigation has been launched.
