MOSCOW, March 31 (RIA Novosti) - The portfolio of Russian defense sector contracts increased by 61% in 2005, President Vladimir Putin told a commission for foreign military technological cooperation.

Putin praised the performance of new component exporters: "They have not only established themselves on the foreign market but also found their own niches."

"I expect these positive dynamics to continue," he said.

The president also said that a decree he signed in September had helped specify duties in the sector's management vertical and had eliminated excessive bureaucratic mechanisms.

He said Russia's most active defense partners were India and China, but added that Russia had expanded its military exports to a total of 61 countries.

Putin said he was particularly happy about the military export agreements signed with Algeria during his recent visit.
