MOSCOW, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's alpine skiers with impaired eyesight will take to the slopes for their first national championships next week, the country's sports federation for vision-impaired athletes said Friday.
Fifteen male and female skiers from across Russia will compete in downhill and giant slalom outside Moscow March 27 through 29, a federation spokesperson said. The best finishers will be included in a national squad and start training for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada.
The blind athletes will be guided down the hill by sighted frontrunners, the official said.
