    Gazprom, Kyrgyzstan discuss natural gas cooperation

    MOSCOW, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov discussed prospects of cooperation in the natural gas sphere Monday, the Russian energy giant said.

    "During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospecting and production of natural gas [and] the modernization and construction of a new gas supply infrastructure in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan," the company said in a statement.

    Gazprom and Kyrgyzstan penned a 25-year agreement on cooperation in the gas sphere in May 2003.

    The confirmed natural gas reserves in Kyrgyzstan are valued at 6 billion cu m. The Central Asian republic produces about 30 million cu m of natural gas annually, a figure expected to growth to 40 million cu m by 2010.

    Kyrgyzstan consumes 700 million cu m per year, a demand currently satisfied by imports from Uzbekistan.
