"Work to control emissions at the level of hydro-electric power plants has been underway all along, but the creation of an environmental management system is a new task for the company," said Igor Kozhukhovsky, head of the UES economic policy department.
The policy, looking to raise the company's environmental efficiency, provided for a set of measures to reduce carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and other hazardous emissions from the company's production facilities, Kozhukhovsky told a seminar on socially and environmentally responsible business practices.
Kozhukhovsky said the policy had already been discussed with the public and would hopefully be confirmed by the company's board in November.
He also said UES was planning to build the system of environmental management within its corporate management system.
