MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) - The first day of school on September 1, known as Knowledge Day in Russia, will with a minute of silence to commemorate students killed during the 2004 terrorist attack on a school in the North Ossetian town of Beslan.
Lyudmila Shvetsova, First Deputy Moscow Mayor and chairperson of the committee organizing Moscow City Day, gave this instruction at a committee meeting on Thursday.
A group of gunmen took school students, teachers, and locals hostage on September 1, 2004. On September 3, troops stormed the building. In all, 330 hostages, including 186 children, were killed and 918 rescued.
