GROZNY, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - A rock festival in Gudermes (a city in the east of Chechnya) that was scheduled for July 5, has been postponed until September, Chechen Prime Minister Sergei Abramov told a news conference Monday.

Citing law enforcement officials, the premier said the delay was due to a deterioration in the situation on Chechnya's borders and adjacent territories.

Chechnya's Interior Ministry was vigorously opposed to the rock festival, but Ramzan Kadyrov, the republic's first deputy prime minister, had insisted on the event and personally guaranteed the security of every one attending the show.

Popular rock bands were to have played at the concert, which was to be held at Gudermes' main stadium. Sponsored by the Akhmad Kadyrov Foundation, an organization set up in the memory of the late president of Chechnya, preparations for the event had been under way for more than two months, and all the tickets had been sold.
