THE WORLD CONGRESS OF RUSSIAN JEWRY HONORS WAR VETERANS

MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti, Olga Lipich) - The World Congress of Russian Jewry (WCRJ), founded by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FJCR), conducts festive events for veterans of the Great patriotic war currently residing in the US, Germany and other countries.

FJCR press service told RIA Novosti a concert for veterans with participation of conductor Yuri Temirkhanov will take place in the UN building in New York on Saturday. On May 9, a veteran's march will take place in the morning on Brighton Beach.

On May 8, a Remembrance Ceremony will take place in Berlin. More than 400 war veterans will participate in the event. They include former prisoners of concentration camps and ghettos, residents of besieged Leningrad. More than 50 Bundestag (lower chamber of the German parliament) deputies will also attend the Remembrance Ceremony.

The program includes placing of flowers at the memorial to Holocaust victims and the memorial to Soviet soldiers-liberators.

Veterans will be awarded with Memorial Badges introduced by the Government of the city of Moscow to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory, and also Salvation Medals introduced by FJCR for the same occasion. The festivities will end in one of the largest concert halls of Berlin - Urania. Famous Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli and German performers will participate in the concert.

In addition, a mock-up model of the Reichstag building of 1945 has been created in the Urania concert hall. Each veteran will be able to put a signature under the inscription, "I made it to Berlin" and have a picture taken.
