Today’s headlines include: Nigerian Special Forces accused of indiscriminate killing of peaceful protesters calling for an independent state of Biafra; the British Government reject criticisms of its Libyan intervention; and what will Trump’s presidency mean for Saudi-Iran relations?

Following years of reports from the indigenous people of Biafra, in Nigeria, that the Nigerian forces were indiscriminately killing peaceful protesters, a report by human rights groups Amnesty International this week back up some of these claims, stating that over one 100 peaceful protesters have been killed in the last 18 months.

The British government has rejected criticism of its 2011 intervention in Libya, claiming that without its intervention, the humanitarian catastrophe would have been much worse. Figures released show that more than 200 detainees in UK immigration centers staged hunger strikes in a three-month period. A further Freedom of Information request revealed over 100 suicide attempts over the same period.
