The Ethiopian Government has announced a six month State of Emergency in response to ongoing anti-government protests; and, amid speculation over post-Brexit Britain, the UK-Ireland border could play a critical and controversial role.

The Ethiopian Government has announced a six month State of Emergency in response to continued anti-government protests. But with human rights groups already raising concerns over accessibility and freedom of press, could this State of Emergency further alienate the Oromo community? We speak to Amnesty International’s Fisseha Tekle.

Amid speculation over what a post-Brexit Britain could look like, the issue of Northern Ireland’s land border with the Republic of Ireland could take on a critical role. The UK’s Northern Ireland Secretary has now suggested that UK border controls may have to be moved to Irish ports and airports, to protect the common travel area between Ireland and the UK — one of the fundamental aspects of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement peace deal.

We also speak to Professor Mark McClay from Glasgow Caledonian University, about the apparent unpopularity of both the US Presidential candidates.
